NOTE/WARNING
Hello! In advance I want to say I'm sorry for the disaster you're about to read. I tried to use Inkspace this week and it didn't turn out so well. I'm planning to come back to this project later and redo it, but otherwise I'm going to narrate this next project like I was using Illustrator and also talking a bit about Inkspace.
Designing
I knew what I wanted to do right away with this project, I'm a NASA fan and aerospace is a field I hope to pursue one day. I stuck with their traditional blue circle and then adding the diamond star you get the meaning of "space" but something specific I added was the red planet in the corner. I hope to specifically help with exploring Mars one day, I'm absolutely fascinated by that planet!
Designing the measurements, I knew I didn't want a really big decal, simply something visible but small. 2 in diameter circle seemed fit so I stuck with that so that I could nestle in the smaller parts. Also the star is bigger than Mars because in real life, stars are SO much bigger than any planet. With that, it's on to the drawing board! |
Imagination time folks! Let's pretend you're looking at Illustrator and not some mysterious board that actually only took up a third of my screen and 10 of the buttons didn't work! Also, apologies for not getting a screenshot of the decal with the diamond star on it, it actually looked super cool, but hey, life is full of regrets. Because you will be printing out different colors, you'll need to put your final pieces on different artboards (document setup -> edit artboards). I would still start out on the same one though simply because of figuring out where you want things. Also, don't forget the red outlines (you want it cut).
After completing this, normally one would save it to a flash drive, take it to the computer hooked up to the Vinyl Cutter and follow the instruction sheet magnitized to its side. After using -hopefully - scrap pieces you'll get to the fun part! Weeding! I'm including pictures from my journal name decal to jog the 'ol memory. The different part is that you need to layer all of your different parts before you put your decal on anything. This way, you'll have multiple decals to hand out to friends and they won't get all dirty. Yuck. It'd be difficult for mine mainly because it's not one layer on top of another, it's more of two small pieces on one big one. Tricky, but that's how I like it! |
Summary
Failure. It's something that every future engineer has to go through at least once in their life, the more times the better. What matters is that you always try to make it better, fix the problem. I failed big time on this vinyl project, that's a fact. I'm planning to come back to this project, though, and fix it! Because I want to cut this decal out and see it for myself! Am I happy that I failed? No! Am I going to wallow in my sadness and self disappointment? Only for two minutes! You should be okay with failing, (besides failing something like high school or college, that's not okay) but you should also realize what mistakes you made and move on! I'm happy to share my failures with you, it reminds us that we're human beings. As always, happy creating. :)
